3D Printing in Full-Color Sandstone

Used For: Figurines, presentation models, architecture models, complex geometry, prototypes, full color printing.
Printing Method: 3DP (powder based)
The 3D printing method for our “Full Color Sandstone” material is powder-based, which uses no secondary material support structures and generates little to zero material waste.
Maximum Print Size | Minimum Print Size | Minimum Wall Thickness | Print Resolution |
---|---|---|---|
15″ x 10″ x 8″ (381 x 254 x 203 mm) | 1″ x 1″ x 1″ (25.4 x 25.4 x 25.4 mm) | .09″ (2.3mm) | .004″ (.1mm) |
Material Characteristics:
Coarse, matte finish with a delicate feel. The default material is white, but our printer can also print in full CMYK color.

Design Rules:

Minimum wall thickness (supported wall)
2.0mm
A supported wall is a wall with connections on both sides.

Minimum wall thickness (unsupported wall)
3.0mm
An unsupported wall is a wall with a connection on only one side.

Minimum Embossed/Engraved Detail
.5mm high and wide
This determines the feature size possible when engraving or embossing within a structure.

Minimum Wire Diameter
3.0mm
A wire is an element where the length is more than 2x the width.

Minimum Clearance
1.0mm
This is the distance between separate components so that they are not bound together.

Minimum Escape Hole Diameter
20.0mm
Escape holes allow for unbound powder material to escape from hollowed models.
Technical Rules:

Normals Must All be Unified
In the digital world, any surface will have a front and a back face. This surface orientation is called a “normal”. If two adjacent surfaces have different normal directions, this file input may confuse the 3D printer.

Models Must be “Water Tight”
This means that there are no holes in the shell of the model. All vertices for adjacent mesh faces must be connected.

Components Must Have Minimum Thickness
In order to successfully print and survive post processing, model components must have a minimum wall thickness.
To have a successful 3D printable file, digital geometry must satisfy the above criteria and if you would like to print in color, send your file as a .vrml instead of a .obj or .stl(.stl and .obj files do not contain any color information.)
