Converting 3D File Types Using MeshLab

For submitting a file for 3d printing, we accept 2 file types.
- .STL
- .VRML (or .WRL) for files with color information for using our full color sandstone material
If you have designed or downloaded a 3D file with a different file extension, it will need to be converted. In most native 3d modeling software tools, you simply Save As or Export to the correct file type.
Native file types like Rhinoceros (.3dm), Solidworks (.SLDPRT), Zbrush (.ZTL), Blender (.BLEND), SketchUp (.SKB) are not accepted file types.
An excellent free tool for both opening and converting a wide range of 3d file types is Meshlab and it is free!
Some file inputs accepted by Meshlab: PLY, STL, OFF, OBJ, 3DS, COLLADA, PTX, V3D, PTS, APTS, XYZ, GTS, TRI, ASC, X3D, X3DV, VRML, ALN
File Outputs from Meshlab: PLY, STL, OFF, OBJ, 3DS, COLLADA, VRML, DXF, GTS, U3D, IDTF, X3D
Besides being able to open large and unstructured meshes from a wide variety of 3d file types, it is also capable of smoothing, simplifying, painting, cleaning, and remeshing.
